Why do I need a notary?

If you need the services of a notary public, you are usually trying to achieve something in another country. It might be something personal like buying or selling property, getting married or investing. Or it might be something for your business like opening an overseas branch, granting authority to a local representative or dealing with a foreign subsidiary. Most likely an adviser or official in the relevant country has asked you to have your document notarised or certified by a notary. You may never have heard of a notary before or you may have used one many times before. Either way, I understand that for you this is a necessary step towards your ultimate goal and you want to get the job done with the minimum of fuss. As a notary public, I am a specialised lawyer recognised by foreign legal systems to authenticate documents. I have my own official seal which I will affix on your document(s) once I have satisfied myself of certain matters, including your identity, your capacity and your understanding of the relevant documents. The receiving party is able to rely on the facts in my notarial act with my seal and signature without further investigation (although depending on where your document is to be used, you might also need it to be legalised, which I can arrange for you if required).

About me

I am many things. A corporate solicitor with nearly 15 years of experience in complex international transactions. A mum of four boys, skilled at coordinating the many and varied components of family life. A consummate professional valued by clients for my can-do attitude and my understanding of their needs. But what you most need to know is that I am a notary public, qualified to practise in England and Wales. I am committed to helping my clients, both individuals and companies, achieve their overseas goals and I am flexible in my approach, offering appointments at a time and a place to suit you.

I work from my office in Danbury, and I am happy to see you there (by appointment only) but I also travel to clients around mid-Essex including Maldon, Chelmsford and surrounding villages. My own life doesn’t fit a 9-5 model and I understand that people’s schedules don’t always fit with appointments in traditional business hours so I am often able to offer early, late or Saturday slots. I aim to explain the process clearly and to answer any questions or concerns you may have. My fees are always clearly outlined up front, usually as a fixed fee for the job although sometimes as an estimate where there are moving pieces or potential complexities.
